Flowers & Chakras

An image article

Last year I found myself in between places to live. I stayed at my sister’s house for a few months and without a doubt the most wonderful thing about her house is the garden.

I am not a student of Ayurvedic wisdom, but having lived in Hebden Bridge for 20 years, I am familiar with the chakra system and its importance in holistic health.

It was only after creating an image based on a Dhalia from the garden that a friend said to me “it looks like a crown chakra.”

This got the interested in the geometric patterns of the mandalas that represent the seven principle chakras.

I used flowers from my sister’s garden to inform my work and created the images you see here. They are not yet finished due to the fact that I moved house shortly afterwards and now lack the space to complete them.

However, once I have some new workshop space I will be creating a publication called “loving the line.” The title refers to the chakra line and the sacred geometry I use to create these images.

Flowers

These are the flowers I chose from the garden to inspire each image. I did not want to create a ‘copy; of each flower, rather create a piece of geometry that expressed its qualities.

Construction

Creating the wireframes is the first step. I begin by setting up the space with construction lines then create the shape in pencil. The ‘true’ lines are then done in ink.

Inking

The next stage is inking, shading and highlighting. This is the fun bit when the images really start to come to life.
