ENSŌ

A circle of vast space, lacking nothing and holding nothing in excess
A breathtaking sunset with a circular light effect over silhouetted mountains.

Change your perspective.

We also call it pattern interruption, or pattern interrupt. The seven aesthetics refer to it as ‘datsuzoku.’ Breaking the routine and finding surprising insights through emergence, simplicity and graceful beauty.

We use this event as a vehicle for changing perspective. We want you to see the challenges you face in life differently. To recognise where your energy is being misplaced, or blocked. When we are troubled by these barriers, they act like boulders in the flow of a river. Our reaction is often to try and shift the boulder out of the way, but sometimes it is too heavy, or we do not have the time, or the resources.

So what about flowing round the boulder? What about being more like the river and letting the boulder guide us to a different flow?

Ensō utilizes principles from Japanese brush and ink art, the seven aesthetics and exercises from NLP to gently introduce you to a new perspective. Each participant will create a piece of framed artwork to refer to, as well as information about the meaning and values of Ensō

Your Experience

I liked the venue and the pre-course communication was excellent. I liked the mix of the formal structure to the session but delivered in an informal way with a dash of humor thrown in. It created a very safe and secure atmosphere where people really opened up and relaxed. I also smile every time I look at my enso painting.

Since the workshop, when i've noticed stress building in my nervous system, despite it feeling counter-intuitive, I am able to remind myself to slow down, take smaller more manageable action steps and instead of just doing more or taking action too quickly to keep up with the fast paced speed of life, i actually make a point of doing a bit less...only more consciously & mindfully. Using my breath to anchor and guide me in my actions.

Process

Ensō is designed on the four stages for Creative Freedom

Being

Breath work, focus exercises and meditations will place us in the here and now. Becoming fully present with ourselves in the space.

Doing

Movement and NLP exercises to prepare us for the process of creating our ensō.

Becoming

Creating the ensō. Understanding the movement of brush, and ink on paper. Learning the principles of ensō

Belonging

Sharing our insights and bring the circle together. This is also where the circle comes back to the beginning.

Origins

by David Nixon

I started designing the Ensō workshop during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.  We have piloted it several times now to fine tune the content. But there is also a history to Ensō that goes all the way back to 2006.

Team Enhancement

Often, we’re mentally preoccupied with past events or future worries, hindering our ability to fully engage with the present.

The principles of Ensō will help anchor your team in the ‘now,’ providing multiple benefits.

We want to help you get the maximum from the Ensō experience.

  • Reduced Stress & Improved Productivity: Lowered anxiety and stress levels translate to increased focus and efficiency.
  • Strengthened Emotional Intelligence: Enhanced emotional regulation fosters better conflict resolution and improved workplace relationships.
  • Boosted Resilience & Decision-Making: Increased self-awareness and positive mindset equip employees to navigate challenges and make sound decisions.
  • Improved Performance Metrics: Studies demonstrate a direct correlation between mindfulness and enhanced work performance.
  • Cultivated a Positive & Inclusive Culture: Fosters empathy, open communication, and adaptability, contributing to a more harmonious and productive work environment.
