The attributes and resources carried by the river

THE STORY OF DRIFTWOOD

At Driftwood Studio we advocate taking the path of least resistance. This is not always, if ever, a straight line, but it is the most efficient narrative to create as you grow and develop as a creative being. The great chef Raymond Blanc used to say that he had made all the mistakes so that others do not have to. In a similar way, we have not always taken the easy path, at times we have struggled. However, what we have learned along the way is now embedded in everything that we do.

Most importantly Driftwood Studio is all about relationships. We want you to be a part of our vision for a world of creative e freedom.

Please be patient as this PDF can be slow to load.

During 2024 we ran a WhatsApp group to get the ball rolling for Driftwood Studio.

This core group of artists, writers, creative thinkers, activists and makers of joy was the fuel that got us moving. The group is now public and you can join anytime to keep up to date with activities, progress, events and offers from the studio.

CREATIVE FREEDOM

Creative Freedom is a concept developed by David Nixon and Dave Brown. It draws on principles from the creative arts, neuroscience linguistic programming and occupational therapy. Driftwood Studio seeks to activate Creative Freedom as a function for learning, reflection and growth. Through Creative Freedom we become more:

  • present
  • adaptable
  • playful
  • engaged
  • communicative
  • positive
  • energised

Creative Freedom is our core principle and to achieve this we remove barriers to our own, innate creativity. This process can be broken into four distinct stages:

BEING: finding ourselves present in the moment, relaxed and engaged.
DOING: engaging out functional faculties with meaningful intent.
BECOMING: learning new skills, forming new perspectives and making new choices.
BELONGING: sharing experiences, forming new relationships and increasing our capacity for and integral approach the challenges we face.

VALUES, MANTRAS & MAXIMS

  • Do something, see what happens, then do the next thing.
  • Diversity of perception is key.
  • Respect diversity, celebrate connection and expect people to be who they are.
  • Keep doing what you’re doing.
  • Everyone is an artist.
  • We are here & this is now.
  • What is emerging is what is real.
  • Relationships are the root of meaningful action
  • Profit for a purpose

You can see more about the way we work by checking out the brand sheet and reading the Seven Aesthetics article in the Studio.
